Posting continued with the food and drink happenings!
- caroused Franklin Street and sampled all the beers at Topo! :) With my lil tasting pint in hand, I peered over the edge to see where the guy who tried to jump from the 3rd floor rooftop bar's brains were supposed to be. He was not successful in his attempt despite spilling his brains on the sidewalk.
- ate at a Waffle House! It was awfully quiet. I guess we were only there at 1am and the party doesn't start bumpin' til 3am. Maya, Alex, and I are ordered 2 cheeseburgers, 2 waffles, and a triple heaping serving of hashbrowns. I apparently inhaled the hashbrowns.
- had my first boba/bubbles/pear/tapioca in NC at Chill on Franklin. And it was downright not good. Too bland and mushy.
- made a trip to Grand Asia Market in Cary! After a month of being on the road and moving, it was definitely refreshing to see Asian brands and foods! :) chia su baos & tong yen gai lan galores! Stocked up $100+ worth of pantry and grocery items for the new apartment. And more inhaling: this time, the combo plate from the hot food counter.
- ate at a Bojangles! It seemed like such a great idea and we were hungry, til the first bite let loose hot chicken grease dripping onto your legs. The fixin's were really hit or miss. Thought we would be healthy and get green beans. Yeah, green beans stewed in lard and spices. The dirty rice was much better b/c it wasn't as greasy as expected from the name. I was surprised to have like their ice tea too! But I guess what isn't there to love about caffeine and sugar?
- Microbrews: Fullsteam and Topo! I think it's been established, I'm a porter kinda girl.
- ate at Guglhupf. Don't even ask me to try and pronounce this one. I believe it's German. They had some really yummy and filling sandwiches and sides. This was one of my first eating out experiences in D-ham and I was glad to have found it tucked along the side of 15-501. The dinner menu looks pretty reasonably priced (though I'm coming from CA so who knows!) and tasty as well.

1-Month Anniversary in Durham (Forays Outside of the Triangle)
- visited Alex's hometown: Fayetteville! It has the designation (according to Alex) for being the halfway point between Miami and NYC for drug trade purposes. Ft. Bragg is massive and takes over the entire town. There are giant flea malls and tons and tons of strip malls. And Abhinov doesn't know how to drive.
- Maya and Joe and Alex came to visit for Labor Day weekend (it was actually just like any other weekend b/c I had class on Monday.) We drove out to the Outerbanks and it was incredible when we got there! I got so giddy hearing the ocean waves! :) Oh, how I miss you California! We stayed at condo rental in Emerald Isle and had a view of the Atlantic from our deck. We had our breakfasts and lunches out there. Alex somewhat absent minded-ly suggested that we watch the sunset on the beach until I reminded him that we were on the other side of the country.
- got a beautiful tan playing in the water and sun-bathing on the crowded beach b/c Hurricane Earl was supposed to stop by but decided the party was really out further east.

1-Month Anniversary in Durham
Tomorrow is my 1-month anniversary in Durham, NC.
As a lot has happened in the past month. I'll split it up between (1) school and living in Durham, (2) Forays outside of the Triangle, and (3) food/drink.
In the course of school and living in D-ham, I:
- decked out my new place in thrift/surplus store furniture and Target goods. Despite my love for IKEA, I did not make the 2.5 hr trek to Charlotte. One day....
- had L awyer E ducation A nd D evelopment (LEAD) Week in which I learned that it sucks being a lawyer and here are some tools/counseling to help you cope. :) Oh! And never ever violate the Honor Code. I don't think this one sunk in with Tucker Max.
- completed my first legal writing assignment due at 8am on Labor Day.
- am starting to understand mens rea and the Model Penal Code. For a model code, it is still pretty confusing and ambiguous sometimes! I will be a pro at statutory interpretation by December, hopefully!
- have learned that it is considered malicious and evil to steal rum and light a match to look around b/c the match also lit the rum fumes and set the whole ship on fire.
- discovered that in the olden days, you can be "attached" to a lawsuit if you owed someone money who owed someone else money. So you better watch where you go, or else you'd get attached!
- gotten lost too many times to count on the too many to count highways in the Triangle. The number soup includes: 15-501, 147, 751, 70, 40, 85, etc. For example, on our way back from the asian mkt in Cary, we started going to Raleigh instead of Durham on the 440.
- played my first softball game with Some Kind of Goat Rodeo (thank you Prof Conley for that inspiration)in a game against ourselves b/c the other team forfeited cuz we're just so intimidating. Yeah, goats! 3-1! And well, sssshhhhhh, no one needs to know that we've only won 1 game legitimately....
- bought a bike from Biker Dan out in Burlington. Sweet old guy with a southern drawl wanted to get away from his wife and spent an hour talking with us after I decided I wanted to get the bike. He ribbed me for going to Duke b/c "What's wrong with Carolina?" and told us how he was about to put a John Deere seat on a bike for his "wife's fat ass." And in keeping with the naming of Zippy. This new bike is going to be Hippie b/c there's a mesh basket wire tied down to the back rack.
- have gotten eaten alive by mosquitoes here until I finally found some natural bug repellent. I held out on the cross country trip and through the first week before I couldn't take it anymore. I now have bruises up and down my legs. And no, I am not a pole dancer.
Now I'm going to hit the sack so I am ready to take Zippy out on the American Tobacco Trail tomorrow morning! :)

butterflies!
We saved a butterfly tonight!!! :)
It was stuck in some sap on this gazebo thing we were on. Alex gently lifted it out and if fluttered away! Please higher being, forgive us for having killed those butterflies out on the road b/c we saved this one. Alex says that when we are old and rich, we will donate our money to a butterfly conservatory.
